ISSUE NO. 93
A June Issue

Photography by Chu Yi Tu Zhi
If we begin with the end already defined, we risk reducing the richness of the beginning to a mere stepping stone. The certainty of an outcome can obscure the possibilities, tensions, and discoveries that exist at the outset. In this way, the end reshapes our understanding of what came before it, making the origin appear inevitable rather than open-ended.
ARCHITECTURALLY CURIOUS
Close Dialogue

Photography by Jonas Poulsen
Open-riser timber stairs are threaded directly against exposed bedrock, allowing the geological formation to remain fully legible within the living space. A steeply pitched ceiling lined in dark wood boards draws the eye upward, while slender steel guardrails maintain a sense of visual permeability across levels. The circular mirror introduces a deliberate geometric counterpoint to the irregular stone mass, reinforcing the tension between precision and permanence. Rather than concealing the site, the interior is organized around it.

Contemplative Transition
A sequence of terraces unfolds through broad landings, retaining walls, and carefully measured changes in elevation. Board-formed concrete, stacked stone, and large-format paving establish a restrained material palette that shifts subtly as light moves across the surfaces. The pool operates as a reflective void, extending the presence of the surrounding volumes and amplifying the depth of the courtyard. Each platform feels calibrated to slow movement and heighten awareness of the terrain beyond.

Fluid Dynamics and Interaction
A floor-to-ceiling opening is held tightly between two stone-clad walls, transforming the landscape into a composed vertical tableau. Deep reveals, dark steel mullions, and a narrow bridge compress the view, giving equal weight to the foreground enclosure and the distant tree canopy. The proportions of the opening encourage a focused gaze, eliminating distraction and directing attention outward. What remains is a study in restraint, where the act of looking becomes the primary spatial experience.
GLOBAL GLIMPSE
Reciprocal Relationship

Photography by Chu Yi Tu Zhi
A deep umber canvas anchors the room like a piece of weathered earth, its surface carrying the same tonal variation found in aged timber and hand-worked clay. Around it, the furniture remains deliberately restrained: a skirted linen sofa, a turned-leg coffee table, and a low leather lounge chair whose silhouette feels borrowed from another era. Nothing competes for attention, yet every object contributes to a layered dialogue between softness and weight. The result feels less curated than accumulated, as though the room has been edited slowly over time.

Accompanied
The bathing space unfolds through a sequence of thresholds rather than walls. Dark-stained timber frames, woven cane panels, and softly illuminated shelving create layers of enclosure that reveal themselves gradually as one moves through the space. A freestanding tub sits just beyond a simple curtain, replacing the usual hierarchy of rooms with something more fluid and intimate. Even the smallest details—the black ceramic vessels, the low stool, the candlelight—reinforce a sense of ritual.

Extravagance
A long floating ledge stretches across the wall, transforming everyday objects into a quiet composition of books, vessels, and branches. The furniture relies on simple geometric forms—a monolithic dining table, a softly curved chair, and slender black frames—to establish order without rigidity. Natural light washes across textured plaster walls, revealing subtle imperfections that make the surfaces feel lived-in rather than pristine. There is a confidence in how little is required.
VISUAL INTEREST
Innocence and of Experience

!SILENCIO!
Elena Njoabuzia Onwochei-Garcia's paintings occupy the space between myth, memory, and psychological terrain. Figures dissolve into one another through fluid contours and muted, atmospheric palettes, creating scenes that feel less observed than remembered.
Bodies are stretched, fragmented, and transformed, suggesting themes of vulnerability, inheritance, and human experience. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the compositions invite viewers into a dreamlike realm where symbolism and emotion take precedence over realism.
MUSICAL INTERLUDE
What I'm Listening to in June
Meaning is often found not in the destination itself, but in our willingness to remain attentive to what emerges along the way—l’ll see you next week my friends.
Warmly,
