Nothing has to be discarded for the self to become complete.

A deep reveal marks the transition into the central gathering space, giving the room a sense of compression before it opens around the stone table. Rough, dark walls and grid-set flooring give the enclosure visual weight, while the luminous fabric ceiling introduces a much lighter plane overhead. At the rear, stainless-steel cabinetry establishes a clean datum against the irregular surface.

Floor-to-ceiling plywood cabinetry is built around the existing windows, using nearly the entire wall for storage and work space. A desk is recessed directly into the millwork, with the window above bringing natural light onto the surface. The exposed concrete ceiling remains visible, creating a clear contrast between the original structure and the new timber insertions.

The kitchen wall is finished with a heavily textured surface formed in uneven horizontal bands. A continuous stainless-steel counter, integrated sink and flat-front cabinetry sit directly against it. The combination is simple but distinct: a rough wall paired with smooth, precisely fabricated metal.

The bedroom is reduced to a few warm materials: pale walls, dark timber, woven cane and a rust-colored bedcover. A partial-height wall wraps the bed, creating a more enclosed sleeping zone without fully closing off the room, while vertical timber slats above continue the datum toward the ceiling. The low stool, rounded lamp and cane bench introduce smaller, sculptural silhouettes against the otherwise quiet planes.

Rather than treating the plant as decoration, a deep wall recess gives it a defined place within the room. The dark base creates a sharp material junction against the pale floor and walls, while the tree’s irregular silhouette breaks the surrounding geometry. Timber furniture repeats the same earthy tones, making the planted recess feel connected to the interior rather than added afterward.

A gently curved wall defines the reading area, with the ceiling and floor following the same radius to create a continuous enclosure. Dark timber shelving is built directly into one end, using thin metal rails as a datum for books and objects, while horizontal blinds control the light at the opposite side. The leather sling chair, tripod table and turned-wood stool keep the furniture visually light against the larger curved surface.

Kemar Keanu Wynter uses painting to locate himself between Jamaican heritage, New York, and an evolving sense of cultural identity. Luminous acrylic washes, dense fields of pigment and loosely defined forms overlap without settling into a fixed image. His compositions shift between opacity and transparency, allowing traces of earlier marks to remain visible beneath the surface. The work feels like a personal visual language.
