A May Issue

Photography by Timothy Kaye
There’s a kid in my neighborhood I often pass on their way to school. Each time, they stop, look up, and ask for a hug—and every time, I fold, offering my arms freely, hoping they always know love as something they never have to earn. They offer nothing in return—not a thank you, not even a smile. Just arms wide open, certain that love is theirs to ask for. Maybe that’s the lesson: love isn’t a transaction to merit, but a fundamental truth—that we are worthy simply by being.
ARCHITECTURALLY CURIOUS
Column Sense

Photography by Gautier Baufils
It’s common in architecture to look to the past for inspiration, reinterpreting historical forms to meet contemporary needs. Set in a square where fragments of ancient columns coexist with new wooden ones, this project draws from the concept of the forum—not just as a physical structure, but as a space for exchange, socialization, and debate.

Shadow Walk
The structure features a wooden colonnade that forms a peristyle—a covered walkway that defines the threshold between interior and exterior. This transition space plays with natural light and shadows, encouraging movement and discovery. Nestled within the columns are quiet seating alcoves, offering spaces for solitude and contemplation.

Pine Lines
Constructed entirely from maritime pine plywood sourced from the Landes region, the structure uses a simple yet effective notching system to join its components. This approach allowed the structure to be assembled quickly and efficiently on site. Beyond design, the architects took on the role of builders, collaborating with three carpenters—an act of shared creativity and hands-on realization.

Kaurna: Contemporary Creamery

Photography by Timothy Kaye
Combining a bar, restaurant, and deli, Latteria—a modern interpretation of a creamery—serves as more than just a dining or drinking venue. It functions as an essential social hub, inviting individuals to relax, socialize, or work in an environment that feels like an extension of home.

Chrome to Concrete
The combination of concrete floors, sloping walls, chrome, leather, and wood materials creates a dynamic, tactile experience. Custom-made furniture and yellow stained glass add warmth and color, transforming the space as the day transitions from sunlight to evening.

Flavorful Space
The island bar serves as the core, while strategically placed cocktail areas ensure smooth service and intimate social interactions, enhancing the overall ambiance. The design emphasizes the importance of both social connection and sustainability while redefining the role of public spaces in fostering a sense of belonging and community.
VISUAL COMFORT
Biological Beauty

Photography from Objets Mito
With a background in molecular biology, sculptor Abid Javed has unveiled a new collection of ceramic vessels called Cargo. The collection blends Javed’s background in plant biology with biomorphism—an artistic style that draws from natural forms and patterns. It’s inspired by biological concepts, specifically the transportation of molecules within vesicles.

Plants to Pieces
The vessels, made of red stoneware ceramic, come in three different designs, each featuring organic, sculptural shapes that reflect the movement and forms found in nature. The pieces serve as both scented candle holders and functional goblets or bowls once the wax is consumed.

Sculptural Function
By incorporating plant-inspired motifs and organic shapes, Javed's work creates a visual dialogue between the natural world and the objects we use, inviting us to reconsider how we interact with the environment.
