A May Issue

Photography from Kisawa Mozambique
When seeds are planted, we hope they take root, stretch toward the light, and bloom—sometimes into something more striking than we ever imagined. Like the Protea flower—ancient, resilient, and endlessly evolving—motherhood, in all its forms, carries that same fierce grace. To those who are mothers, have mothers, or mother in any way—we see you every day, but as a conscious collective, we honor you today.
ARCHITECTURALLY CURIOUS
Printed in Paradise

Photography from Kisawa Mozambique
Located on a remote island off the coast of Mozambique is an ultra-luxury eco-resort—Kisawa Sanctuary. This rare location—rich in marine life, coral reefs, and dune forests—serves as the canvas for a minimalist, biophilic resort that offers just 11 residences, each secluded on a private acre of land.

sand + seawater
Each residence was built using 3D-printed mortar made from island sand and seawater. Curved roofs echo ocean waves, while interiors feature custom wood carvings, handwoven fabrics, high ceilings, and low-slung furnishings. Together, these elements offer a design philosophy that’s deeply connected to people, place, and planet.

Coastal Curves
The design blends biophilic architecture with vernacular aesthetics—creating a secluded, nature-immersed retreat where guests can enjoy tranquility, biodiversity, and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean.

Linyi: Intentionally Introspective

Photography by ACT Studio
The restoration of this 20-year-old standalone villa in the heart of Linyi was a deeply personal endeavor. Guided by their values, the homeowners view their home as a reflection of their life philosophy—centered around art, simplicity, and introspection.

Historical Nod
The tea room and dining area are arranged in harmony—inspired by the traditional architecture of old Chinese homes. Details like vintage bone-inlaid doors and bamboo accents evoke cultural memory—while children’s spaces use playful colors and textures to support growth and imagination.

Guided Grounding
Each design decision, from the walnut-toned cabinetry to the interplay of shadow and light—reinforces the theme of simplicity and authenticity. The home becomes a sanctuary, where natural textures and warm tones evoke peace, strength, and a timeless quality of life—making each room feel grounded and restorative.
VISUAL COMFORT
Are You Serious?

Photography by Hartmut Nägele
Marcel Breuer's S 64 chair is an enduring symbol of 20th-century modernist design—known for its cantilever tubular steel frame and canework elements. Now, nearly a century later, German fashion designer Jil Sander—known for her minimalist, refined approach to clothing—has stepped into the world of furniture design.

Sitting Pretty
By revisiting this classic, Sander brings a fresh, fashion-informed perspective that respects the chair’s legacy while making it relevant for today’s interiors. Her goal: to preserve the chair’s instantly recognizable form while introducing refined, contemporary details.

A “Careful Polish”
Known as the Serious line—this collection adds a glossy frame and muted leather tones, while still offering classic canework in a deep Dark Melange. It’s a reminder that design is a language of interpretation—where the same form becomes a completely new story in the hands of each creative mind.

Just Dandy Sofa
Just Dandy is part of a limited capsule that celebrates Afro Dandyism. It’s structured silhouette—squared arms, single bench cushion, and pleated skirt—nods to tailored dressing, while the navy performance linen offers a refined yet practical finish.
Hand-stitched embroidery blends Adinkra symbols—Duafe, Eban, Fawohodie—with continuous linework inspired by Ibrahim El-Salahi, echoing visual traditions and spiritual abstraction.
From fabric to form, Just Dandy is composed, expressive, and tailored.
