An October Issue

Design is about how we shape the world around us—and more importantly—how it shapes us. It’s a reflection of what we value, how we respond to our surroundings, and how we make something intangible come alive.

Whether I’m walking through familiar places or exploring new ones—I’m constantly reminded of how design can challenge, comfort, or inspire in the smallest of ways. This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about how thoughtful design can do more than just change our space—it can shift our entire perspective.

ARCHITECTURALLY CURIOUS

A Retro Symbol of Socializing in Style

Photography from Gagu Object

Originally popular in the ‘70s, conversation pits were admired for their informal vibe and the sense of community they fostered. They allowed conversations to flow easily in a relaxed environment.

Beyond the Noise

Today, conversation pits are the topic of conversation. More than ever, people crave intimate spaces that encourage genuine connection beyond the distraction of our phones. These inviting sunken areas mix retro charm with modern design—offering a dedicated space to comfortably enjoy time with friends and family.

GLOBAL GLIMPSE

Guadalajara: A Courtyard Sanctuary Rooted in Mexican Architecture

Photography by Cesar Bejar Studio

Casa Caribu—an architecturally striking residence nestled within a forest in Mexico—blends effortlessly with its forested surroundings. Drawing on traditional Mexican architecture, it features a central courtyard inspired by pre-Columbian design and incorporates local materials including dark clay roof tiles and exposed concrete.

Preserving Nature’s Footprint

Located within a forest of pines and oaks, Casa Caribu stands on sloping terrain near a protected reserve. The main goal of this project was to preserve more than 80% of the original vegetation. By following the natural terrain, it minimizes the house's ecological footprint—allowing it to blend seamlessly with the landscape instead of disrupting it.

Simple Interiors, Rich in Culture

The residence was built with three main materials: exposed concrete, brick, and plaster. Inside, the minimalist design reflects these materials. The brick walls open to the central courtyard creating a smooth connection between the home and the surrounding forest—achieving both sustainability and aesthetic harmony.

Preppy Granny Golfcore Chic

From neckerchiefs to fuzzy cardigans—his style blends a country club vibe with granny chic and is topped with a touch of grandpa golf fashion. To bring his fashion style into his personal space, he commissioned UK-based artist Charlotte Kingsnorth to create a custom set of dining chairs for his home. Each chair was meticulously hand-dyed to match his eclectic style and signature color palette—transforming everyday objects into works of art.

Where Fashion Becomes Furniture

Much like his outfits, the chairs mix classic influences with unexpected twists—bringing bold color and artistic expression into his personal space. This collaboration is the perfect example of how custom creations can be designed to reflect an individual's identity and taste while influencing cultural trends.

Too Good’s Gummy Lounge Chair

This playful yet refined lounge chair features generous, human-like proportions that create a welcoming presence in any space—making it both a functional seating option and a striking sculptural element.

Jacobsen’s La Chaleur Vase

Released during NY Design Week a few years back, this vase made from vibrant Sargasso green and aurora pink hand-blown glass is the perfect gift or statement piece for any home that sparks conversation.

What I'm Listening to in October
